Alex Skolnick of Testament, Geoff Tyson of T-Ride, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica all share one similar trait with Steve Vai: they are all former students of Joe Satriani. Joe Satriani has received gold and platinum plaques for his 18 studio albums, three EPs, five live albums, and four compilation albums. He has sold over 10 million albums and has toured with the greatest performers, including music icon Mick Jagger. He has 15 Grammy Award nominations, like his former student and now bandmate Steve Vai. Vai has also won three Grammy Awards thanks to his rich discography that has 11 studio albums, two EPs, eight live albums, 12 soundtracks, 20 compilation albums, two special albums, and seven videos. He has sold more than 15 million records internationally and has played alongside Frank Zappa. When Satriani and Vai saw the potential of producing music and embarking on tour as a band, they formed the SatchVai Band, now with drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Marco Mendoza, and guitarist Pete Thorn. Altogether, their talents will take their audiences to another dimension of music, and it’s something you should definitely catch at least one show for.
Currently composed of Tosin Abasi on lead guitar, Javier Reyes on rhythm guitar, and Matt Garstka on drums, Abasi’s solo project in 2007 has evolved into a djent scene favorite. Animals As Leaders is joining this tour as the official supporting act, and the band is positively stimulated to join their music idols, with Abasi sharing, “We are beyond honored to be joining Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on tour!
